Hangzhou Metro Group builds and operates Hangzhou’s metro network. The group was set up on 6 June 2002 and opened Line 1 on 24 November 2012, making Hangzhou the 17th city in China with a metro; Lines 1 and 5 are operated by MTR Corporation (Hangzhou). In 2026 the metro lines total 516 km, or 562 km including the Hangzhou–Haining commuter line. Ridership peaked at 5,815,800 trips on 31 December 2025.
