About the company

Ant Group runs the Alipay payment app and offers digital financial services such as consumer credit, money market funds and online banking. It grew out of Alipay, which Alibaba launched in Hangzhou in February 2004; Ant Group itself was set up by Jack Ma on 16 October 2014 and has its head office in the Ant Z Space at 556 Xixi Road in Xihu District. In June 2020 Alipay served more than 1.3 billion users and 80 million merchants. A planned stock market listing was suspended in 2020, and since a restructuring in 2023 no single shareholder controls the company.
