About the company

DingTalk is Alibaba’s workplace platform for messaging, video meetings and office collaboration in companies and organisations. Development began inside Alibaba in May 2014, when Chen Hang and six colleagues worked in Jack Ma’s former home at Lakeside Garden in Hangzhou; the first version came out on 1 December 2014. In 2023 DingTalk had 700 million users and 25 million organisations and companies. During the COVID-19 outbreak, schools used it to send homework to pupils in quarantine, who responded by flooding app stores with low ratings.
