About the company
Hikvision makes video-surveillance equipment, such as security cameras and video recorders, for civilian and military use. Founded in 2001, it is headquartered in Binjiang District and has been listed in Shenzhen since 2010; its largest shareholder is the state-owned China Electronics Technology Group (CETC). In 2025 revenue was flat at 92.51 billion yuan, while net profit rose 18.5 per cent to 14.2 billion yuan. In October 2019 the US government put Hikvision on its Entity List over the surveillance of Uyghurs in Xinjiang.
Hikvision cameras were certainly in use in Belgium by 2016. At the Belgian Chamber’s Justice Committee on 26 January 2022, MPs from N-VA, Vlaams Belang and Ecolo-Groen asked about Hikvision and Dahua cameras; Justice Minister Van Quickenborne replied that military intelligence (ADIV) had warned of the risks as early as 2016, but that there was at that point ‘no evidence of data leaks to China’.
