Ding Lei founded the company in Guangzhou in June 1997 with three employees; its main office is now the NetEase Building in Binjiang District, Hangzhou. In 2025 revenue reached 112.6 billion yuan, and in March 2026 the group had 25,423 employees. Its games include Marvel Rivals, and in 2022 it bought the French studio Quantic Dream in Paris.
